I met Lexi and Tyler in Charleston, SC – one of my favorite places to visit. I have always been drawn to Charleston since my first visit with my mom back in 2017. It was the first trip that was just the two of us. She and my dad had their honeymoon there 30 years earlier and she was so excited to show me all her favorite spots.
These spots would also come to be some of my favorites as well. It was such a joy to have the opportunity to bring Lexi and Tyler these places and have them become some memorable places as well.
Because we were shooting around buildings in this city we started in the evening an hour before golden hour and met at the famous Mills House on Meeting St. The marble checkered floor at the front of this hotel has always caught my eye the way it coordinates so well with the columns and pink hue. Lexi and Tyler told me they had never had professional photos taken before but the way they so effortlessly posed together I could tell they were in love.
Next we walked to this popular blue door near Rainbow Row. There was still plenty of blue light to cast a glow on the beautiful blue building which illuminated the greenery so beautifully. This shade of blue might be my favorite to photograph. It’s such a sweet calming blue that I think goes with anything!
Of course being in Charleston means we had to take photos on Rainbow Row. With this being such a popular location I knew it would be a task to dodge all the tourists, like myself but we ended up with some beautiful shots.
The last and possibly my most favorite location was near the ocean just down the street from Rainbow Row.
Although it was at least 89 degrees that August evening these two stuck it out like pros. I made sure we waited to do this location last so we wouldn’t have to deal with any harsh lighting. The palm trees and historic homes made the perfect backdrop for this beautiful summer evening engagement session.
That’s the thing about Charleston, its historic nature creates a fairytale and yet timeless look. It will always be one of my favorites.
